Cosmetic Surgery Jumps 9% Last Year
Plastic surgery procedures increased almost 9% last year compared to 2009, say annual statistics from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Breast augmentation was the most popular surgical procedure for the third year in a row. The top nonsurgical procedure was Botulinum Toxin Type A, which includes BOTOX Cosmetic and Dysport.
According to the Aesthetic Society, more than 1.6 million cosmetic surgical procedures were performed in the United States in 2010. The Top 5 Cosmetic Surgery procedures were breast augmentation, liposuction, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) and breast reduction. All showed increases compared to 2009.
More than 7.7 million Cosmetic Nonsurgical procedures were performed last year, the report said. Botox, Dyport and other injectables topped the list, following by laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing and chemical peels. The popularity of injectables has risen more than 500% since 1997, the first year the ASAPS began collecting stats.
