Survey Finds Hair Restoration on the Rise Worldwide
Good hair never goes out of style in any corner of the world, and results released of a new member survey conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) shows men and women are going to great lengths on a global scale to restore hair loss. Today, more people than ever are taking advantage of major strides that have been made in the art and science of Hair Restoration and Hair Transplants.
The ISHRS estimates that 310,624 hair restoration procedures were performed worldwide in 2012, a 10% increase since 2010. Of these hair restoration surgery patients, 86.3% were male and 13.7% were female. More than half of both male and female surgical patients in 2012 were between the ages of 30 to 49 years old.
“Hair is universally viewed as a sign of youth and vitality, which is why hair loss at any age can have a significant impact on a person’s overall quality of life,” said ISHRS president Vincenzo Gambino, M.D., of Milan, Italy. “To combat hair loss, more men and women are turning to hair restoration surgery, especially those in their 30s and 40s, because the results are permanent, natural-looking and virtually undetectable.”
The ISHRS also notes a 13.1% increase in hair restoration procedures performed on the face (eyebrows, moustache and beard).
Survey members chose John Mayer as the male celebrity with the best hair and Sofia Vergara as the female celebrity with the best hair. Prince William was voted as the celebrity for whom ISHRS members would most like to perform a hair transplant.
