New Breast Augmentation Trends

Birmingham AL breast enhancement patients choose from latest options

Women who want to increase the fullness and enhance the shape of their breasts are increasingly turning to the latest breakthroughs in breast augmentation to fulfill their desire for a more attractive figure. Cosmetic surgery to enlarge the breasts is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure in the United States, with hundreds of thousands of procedures performed each year.

The reasons women choose this procedure vary with each individual. Many women simply feel that larger breasts would enhance the overall proportions, contour and balance of their body. Others consider breast augmentation because of a loss of breast volume caused by aging, weight loss or pregnancy. Women whose breasts are asymmetrical may consider breast augmentation to enlarge the smaller breast.

Breast implants are available filled with either saline or silicone gel. Silicone gel implants were reintroduced in 2006 following numerous studies conducted to address their safety. Hedden & Gunn Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeons William Hedden, M.D. and Stephen Gunn, M.D., has performed thousands of breast augmentation procedures using both of these breast implant options. For Dr. Hedden and Dr. Gunn, these changing trends have given them the tools to provide their patients with the desired result.

Transumbilical breast augmentation (TUBA)

Another recent development in breast augmentation is transumbilical breast augmentation, or TUBA, which is a less-invasive way to expand the contour of the breasts. During the TUBA procedure, breast implants are inserted through a tiny incision at the upper rim of the navel and moved to the breasts with an endoscope. This outpatient procedure typically takes only 30 to 45 minutes, requires less recovery time and leaves no scars on the breasts.

Transumbilical breast augmentation and other breast enlargement techniques are performed in the accredited outpatient surgery suite of Hedden & Gunn Plastic Surgery in Birmingham, Alabama.
